Overview:

When we think of what makes Maine special, we think of quiet working harbors and scenic lighthouses on rocky peninsulas. The coast of Maine from Pemaquid to Port Clyde encapsulates this mystique perfectly. Join acclaimed photographers Kurt Budliger and Benjamin Williamson on this epic Maine Coast adventure.  Ben has been photographing this iconic portion of the Maine Coast for the past 10 years and knows it better than anyone else!  Possible locations include Harpswell, Orr’s and Bailey Islands, Popham Beach, Five Islands, Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, New Harbor, Port Clyde, Marshall Point Lighthouse, Owls Head, Rockland, Rockport, and Camden Harbors.

Schedule:

The workshop will kick off on Monday afternoon, July 24th with an opening orientation followed by a group welcome dinner and our first sunset shoot.  There is no “set” daily schedule, rather we keep things flexible in order to best respond to the weather and light available for making images.  Typically, we’ll be out for sunrise, shoot until mid morning and then take a break for a meal and brief rest.  We’ll reconvene for instruction, post processing and critique during the mid-day hours when the light is typically less conducive to photography.  We’ll then head back out into the field in the late afternoon and evening for a sunset shoot and the possibility of a night photography session as well.  The workshop will concluded after our final morning session on Friday July 28th.

Physical Difficulty:

There will be no strenuous hiking involved during the workshop and most locations will be close to the road.  Some locations, however may involve a short hike of less than a mile with no serious elevation gains.  We will be spending a lot of time shooting along country roads, beaches and coastal trails that will require scrambling over rocks and down hillsides.  The terrain along the coast can be very uneven and sometimes slippery so caution is always a prudent consideration.  Hiking boots and a modest level of health and fitness will greatly enhance your experience.

Accommodations:

Participants are responsible for their own lodging, transportation and meals.  Carpooling is encouraged to minimize our footprint as well as foster camaraderie.  Lodging information will be provided upon registration.
